What is the PTO?

The Wayland Public Schools Parent Teacher Organization is a 501(c)(3) fundraising organization.

We promote communication and cooperation within the school community for the benefit of the students of Wayland Public Schools.

Through fundraising and volunteer efforts, the organization provides support for activities and materials that directly contribute to the quality of education in Wayland.

  • 5th Grade Activities Chair: This position coordinates the team of Grade 5 Parent Volunteers for all Grade 5 activities including: Beach Bash, Field Trip, Memory Book/Slide Show, Play, Picnic, T-Shirt
  • 5th Grade Activities Team: This team plans all the fifth grade activities in combination with the other elementary schools. The activities are meant to unite the full class before they arrive in September in the middle school and help with the assimilation process.
  • Book Fair: This team plans two book fairs a year – one in the fall, and one in the spring.
  • Cultural Enrichment: This person works across the schools to bring cultural enrichment shows to our schools.
  • Cultural Proficiency Committee Parent Members: Join Loker staff in discussing ideas on how to be proactive in celebrating and embracing all cultures in our school community.
  • Family Partnership Conversations: This team organizes events during the year to bring together the Principal and our community. The team purchases food and helps to market the event to the community.
  • Fundraising – Backpack Auction: This person manages one of the two major PTO elementary fundraisers in the late winter (March) and works with teams from all elementary schools. Teams collect donations for auction items, create and distribute the catalog, manage the online bidding process. A fun way to have a huge impact on the PTO!
  • Fundraising – Gift Your Child: This team/person manages one of the two major PTO elementary fundraisers and works with teams from all elementary schools. The campaign typically runs from the beginning of the school year through the end of October. Teams send out a letter to all families, keep track of incoming donations, and send out marketing pieces to educate families on where the money is going and encourage participation. The majority of the work can be done on a flexible schedule, and from home. Another amazing way to participate for a finite time while making a huge impact on the resources of the PTO.
  • Gardens & Grounds: This team/person coordinates the fall and spring garden clean-up around the school grounds to keep the outside of our building looking inviting.
  • Holiday Toy Drive: This team/person matches families in the Loker community who would like to provide holiday gifts for foster care children with a list provided by the Department of Children & Families. The teams collects all the presents and drops them off at the end of the drive. The event usually occurs between Thanksgiving and early December.
  • Ice Cream Social Volunteer
  • Just Like Me – 3rd grade: Manage one-day presentation on deafness and Hard of Hearing, Blindness and Low Vision.
  • Just Like Me – 4th grade: Manage one-day presentation physical Limitations, Intellectual Limitations, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum
  • Library/Art Volunteer Coordinator: This person helps organize the parent volunteer schedule through an online “sign up genius”. The parent volunteers are assigned to a class time and come to the library to process check-in/out books, straighten shelves, and do various misc. projects. This person helps the Loker Art teacher schedule volunteers, participate in art classes, help with set up/clean up.

  • Membership Toolkit: Approve families requesting to join the online directory
  • Metco Parent Representative
  • Movie Nights: This team manages the “red carpet” magic for a family fun Friday night movie. The team is responsible for popcorn, water, movie selection, and glamour on the red carpet! A great community gathering event!
  • New Families/ Kindergarten Social Coordinators: This team plans the kindergarten popsicle play date before school starts, new family coffees, is willing to be a resource for new community members, and helps the new families to assimilate into our community.

  • Room Parent Coordinator: This team/person organizes the room parent volunteers, distributes materials on the gift giving policy, and utilizes room parents to communicate with their classes when needed.
  • Room Parent: Send out communications to class as necessary, coordinate class gifting.
  • School Pictures: This team/person manages the fall school picture process with Hayward Photography. This entails communicating with the photo company, organizing volunteers for school picture day, and publicizing make-up day.

  • Social Chair: The Social Chairs coordinate and run family social events throughout the year. There are two main events: ice cream socials in the fall and spring.The Social Chairs are responsible for organizing and scheduling all activities and food for the events.
  • Social Media/Website Manager: Creates marketing materials for school events to be posted on facebook page, PTO website, school flyers.
  • Spirit Wear: Coordinate Loker merchandise and distribution.
  • Staff Appreciation: This team is responsible for coordinating beginning and end of year staff appreciation breakfast/luncheons
  • Staff Picture Board: This team/person is responsible for updating staff photos each fall. This means adding new staff that have been hired/retired and adjusting teacher positions (ex: grade 3 to grade 2), if needed.
  • STEM Fair
  • Talent Show Coordinator: Assist Principal Brian Jones with the annual talent show, including try-outs and the performance night. Loker’s talent show typically takes place in February and is a fun and casual evening celebrating the talented students at Loker. This is a great way to work creatively with kids!

  • Wayland Family Friends: Coordinates engagement with METCO families at Loker, particularly bridging the gap between the end of school and an evening event.
  • World Fair Coordinator: Oversee a team of volunteers to organize WWF – Created to celebrate Wayland’s cultural diversity, the World’s Fair is an educational event that allows families and friends to put together booths representing the best of their culture or a culture they admire. Each booth features informative displays, cultural artifacts, food samples, crafts and more! Parent and children volunteers work together to create a cultural experience for World’s Fair visitors that help the community understand what it might be like to live in that culture. Volunteers are needed to help with organizing the event and/or creating culture booths.
  • World Fair Volunteer: Work with the team to organize and execute the World’s Fair.
